| Being away from home for the first time is hard. New college students are on their own, and often on a tight budget. This is especially true for those who have chosen a school far away from their friends and family. Whether you want to make sure your they don't starve, or just want to remind them that your thinking of them and love them, a care package is a great surprise!
Moving away from home for the first time is very difficult. New college students are on their own, and usually responsible for their own budget. This is especially true for those who have chosen a school far away from their friends and family. Whether you want to make sure they don't starve, or just want to remind them that you love them, a care package is a great way to go! Here are three college care package ideas of what you can send.
The Dorm Food Survival Package
Living in a dorm is quite an adjustment. You have a small space for a bed, desk, and a few other pieces of furniture. There's a communal bathroom, and no kitchen in your room. If you're lucky, you have a microwave and a mini-fridge. For students, feeding themselves isn't always easy, and they can't always make it to the school cafeteria. That's why sending them a care package with some easy to prepare meals and snacks is such a great idea. They'll definitely appreciate having some food on hand for hunger emergencies!
Include in your care packages things that are easy to package and mail. Packaged ramen is a popular option for college students (and after they graduate, they'll probably never want to eat it again!) It's easy to make as all you have to do is add hot water. If they have access to a microwave, this is a new brainer. Easy to eat fruits and vegetables are also an option, and they're healthy! You can include things like apples, oranges, bananas, baby carrots, and maybe even one of those pre-prepared vegetable trays. Since school cafeterias aren't usually open for snack time, include some easy snack items too. Things like chips, cookies, juice and peanut butter and bread make wonderful, and quick, snacks!
The "I Love You" Package
If your student is homesick, (whether or not they'll admit it), this is a great package to remind them that they're loved and make them feel cared for. First, you'll need a plush toy. You could get their favorite animal from childhood, like a lion or an elephant. Or, get them the plush equivalent of a much loved pet that they had to leave it home. This will make them feel like they aren't so alone! Also include some of their favorite baked goods. You could include cookies, cake, cupcakes, bars, or even home baked bread if that's what they really enjoy. Giving them the taste of home is very important!
The Movie Night Package
This is a great care package for sharing with other students. Whether they're trying to make friends, or just need some (safe) fun to take a break from studying, getting together everything they'll need for a movie night will be a much appreciate idea. The most important part of this package is the movie (or movies). Get them some DVDs that you'll think they'll enjoy or a gift card for them to rent or buy their own. Then include the traditional movie night snacks to share, (just make sure there's enough for several people). This should include popcorn, soda, and candy; everything they'll need for the perfect night at the movies!
With these three great care package ideas, you're sure to find one that's perfect for your college student! Remember, you can modify these any way you want if you have your own great idea. Whichever one you choose to send, your college student is sure to feel loved and cared for!
